Week 37: ONE Minute a Day to Hit Your Goals

13th April 2015 by Neera Menon Leave a Comment

one-minute

One minute a day can make all the difference in your ability to hit your goals.

We all know about exercising our bodies, but what about exercising control over your mind? It’s easy to take your mind to the ‘gym’.

  1. All you need to do is to find a quiet place to sit where you will not be disturbed.
  2. Set a timer for 1 minute.
  3. Close your eyes and just focus on your breathing.

What I’m asking you to do is to meditate for one minute.

Maybe you’ve tried meditation before and all you found yourself doing was fidgeting throughout the whole exercise. So even doing a minute of meditation may be a challenge.  This may be because you may not realize the importance and benefits of such a simple act of meditation.

Here’s a little bit of science behind meditation to show you what happens to the brain during meditation and how you can use it to succeed at your goals.

Your brain operates at different brain wave patterns throughout the day. We move from beta to alpha to theta to delta when going to sleep, and vice versa when waking up.

  • Beta 13 to 50 cycles/sec – this is during your waking hours. You may be at 13 cycles/sec when you are relaxed and reading a book but at the other extreme, 50 cycles/sec, when under extreme stress. You could be feeling frustrated, impatient, and emotional, and at this level you cannot programme the mind to successfully hit your goal.
  • Alpha 8 to 13 cycles/sec – in this state, your body relaxes.
  • Theta 4 to 8 cycles/sec – in this state you are still relaxed but not yet asleep.
  • Delta 0.5n to 4 cycles/sec – in this state you are asleep.

Your mind is made up of the conscious mind and the unconscious mind. When you’re in alpha and beta mode, you are in your conscious mind, and in alpha, theta, or delta in the unconscious part of the mind.

Meditation SLOWS DOWN your brain wave patterns from beta to alpha or theta.

Doing a small meditation session every day will give you the opportunity to enter your subconscious mind, and this is the time to focus on your goal.

Here’s why this is important. Once you plant your goal into your unconscious mind, you will without a doubt hit your goal.

Here’s how to meditate for reaching your goals:

  1. Find a quiet place to sit where you will not be disturbed.
  2. Set a timer for 1 minute.
  3. Close your eyes and just focus on your breathing while thinking about your goal. For example, say you have a sales target for the day. Envision the dollar amount and see yourself jumping up and down, feeling joyful.

This is the formula will help you build the focus you need to succeed in anything you desire.
