Merlin was a magician who taught King Arthur to think backwards.
That’s exactly what you need to do when it comes to setting your goals.
Think of a goal as a magic spell.
Improbable as this may sound, what I’m putting to you has some scientific basis.
Most of us think, ‘I’ll believe it when I see it’.
In fact, the exact opposite is true:
You’ll see it when you believe it.
Objective reality, as Werner Heisenberg demonstrated in the 1920s, doesn’t exist. According to the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, the observer influences the circumstances being observed, a discovery that’s being expanded upon by today’s quantum physicists. By focusing your mind on something, you actually affect it and even bring it into being. That’s the basis of all magic.
Simply put:
Before you cast a spell, DECIDE what you want for your end goal or outcome.
- Do you want financial freedom?
- More love or more abundance in your life?
- Maybe you want to be a better parent?
- Rekindle the spark in an existing relationship?
- Create a business?
- Have a better job?
- Enjoy a happy marriage?
- Have a romantic relationship?
- Write a best-selling novel or screenplay?
- Be famous?
- Own your house outright?
- Be an entrepreneur?
- Travel to exotic places?
- Just be super great at something?
Do not limit yourself by what you think is possible.
“There is no use trying”, said Alice.
“One can’t believe impossible things”.
“I dare say you haven’t had much practice”, said the Queen.
“When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast”.
— Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland
Create the spell, and the more specific you can be, will dramatically increase your chances of success.
Here is some inspiration:
Firstly, let’s look at a few goal statements that AREN’T good examples of goals…
- “I want to look great.”
- “I want to lose weight.”
- “I want to lose 20 pounds.”
- “I don’t want to be overweight anymore.
- “I am tired about always worrying about my financial future.”
- “I want to become self-employed.”
- “I want to work on my personal development, starting tomorrow.”
- “I want to stop smoking now.”
- “I want to quit my job as soon as possible.”
- “I don’t want to be in this kind of relationship!”
- “I don’t want to feel stagnant anymore!”
A clearer way of wording the goal is:
“It’s the morning of April 1st, I step on the scale, and it’s showing 130 pounds. I look in the mirror and love what I see. I am looking great!”
Jim Carrey wrote himself a cheque for $10,000,000 and dated it Thanksgiving 1995.

“I now have all the knowledge, love, and support I need to make a six-figure income of $500,000+ per year in my business. I am making a positive global impact doing what I love that’s a full, authentic expression of my Divine Purpose, serving ideal clients. With all the time off I choose to live a healthy, vibrant lifestyle I love with the people I love while taking impeccable care of myself”.
“It is New Year’s Eve 2017. My life partner and I are sitting at the table looking at a $0 balance owing on our last credit card statement and at more than $4,000 generated in passive income over the previous month. We raise a toast and smile at each other knowingly. We have finally made it”.
“It is New Year’s Eve 2015. The first payment into my PayPal account from my business has recently come in, and with it, the inner peace and mixed exhilaration that comes from knowing that I am now the master of my own financial destiny. It feels right. I feel so good”.
“It is my birthday and I am celebrating it with all my friends and those I love. My new boyfriend/girlfriend is standing right beside me. I feel so happy that I allowed this to happen!”
