The Amazing Florence Nightingale
Did you ever sit down to write a goal and came up with nothing because you couldn’t decide what to put on paper?
I just finished coaching a client, and she was not able to decide on a goal.
The question in her mind was should she start with a big goal or a small goal?
The words ‘big’ and ‘small’ mean different things to different people, but bear with me.
Her logic with picking a small goal is that if she succeeds at a something small, then she’ll have practiced the art of goal achievement enough to go for something really big.
That got me thinking that you’d benefit by listening to what I said to her.
You’ve got to realise that you’re already great at goal achievement.
Think of all the things you’ve wanted and succeeded in getting.
Pause for a minute.
Just make a quick list in your head of two or three things you’ve succeeded at.
See—you’ve managed it before!
Let me share something with you to inspire you to choose a BIG goal.
I was captivated by a film about Florence Nightingale because she had a really BIG goal.
In a nutshell, she was a daughter of wealthy parents, but she did the unthinkable by becoming a nurse.
Florence followed her calling and, against massive opposition, she totally transformed the quality of care provided by nurses.
Forget the small goals and choose something BIG that totally puts you out of your comfort zone.
