42 Weeks Left: Perseverance

9th March 2015 by Neera Menon Leave a Comment

I have a client that I really admire because long after others have given up on their dreams, she has kept going.

Don’t get me wrong. She had times when she was full of fear and self-doubt regarding if she’d ever hit her goal. She even questioned her sanity over the pursuit of her dream, but nevertheless, she kept going.

She’s had to deal with a divorce, childcare issues, and financial problems, and to cap it all, her business partner walking out on her. And now finally things have turned around for her in her cookery business, and she’s making a FIVE-FIGURE income per month. This means she’s doing what she loves and is now able to support both herself and two adorable girls.

How many times have you given up on your dream when things get tough?

Without a shadow of a doubt, we’ve all wanted to give up [probably several times] at some point.

And the key to keep going is perseverance.

The things that help you persevere through the challenges are:

  1. Have a clear vision of the goal you are pursuing. For example, it could mean creating and then periodically looking at a vision board.
  2. Remember the positive strides you’ve already made towards your goal, because you must not forget the victories and milestones you’ve already passed. Look how far you’ve already come!
  3. Change your mind-set about the challenges you face. Thomas Edison made a thousand unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. When a reporter asked, ‘How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?’ Edison replied, ‘I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps’. Honestly, who cares how many times it takes to hit the right formula?
  4. Chill out – keep your mind relaxed and keep smiling because it will help you problem solve effectively.
  5. Know that there is always a solution. Picture the times that you’ve successfully navigated through what seemed like insurmountable objects at the time. You’ve had plenty of successes you can lean on.

Never give up because you’re probably  just a few steps away from success!
