So, you’ve made your goals for 2016.
What possibly should you have to watch out for?
Consider this:
- Are your goals exciting enough to inspire you into action?
- Do you have a plan for how to continue when you lose steam?
‘We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them’.
–Albert Einstein
Your brain is wired to repeat the same behaviors you’ve done in the past. This wiring determines everything from the brand of coffee you drink in the morning to what your goals are in your life.
To really leap frog your life and achieve something amazing, you need to break the circuit of your current level of thinking.
Let me give you some fresh tips on how to approach this year’s goals.
I’m excited to hear about and help you with your goals!
Goal Buddy
Right now, in the month of January, find yourself a goal buddy. This buddy will be committed to helping you with your goal for ONE year, and in turn you will do the same for them.
Choose a person who believes in you and will push you.
- First, have your buddy help you clearly define your goal. If you can state your goal in a way that your buddy understands, then you are clear about your goal!
- Use the fact that your buddy’s brain is wired differently than yours. When you are struggling to continue, she’ll have the strength to pull you through. And you’ll do the same for her!
- Together, figure out how you’ll each stay on track. Write out specific mileposts. For example:
- “By February 1, I will have lost 5 pounds.”
- “I’ll drink only one glass of wine each night.”
- “I’ll set aside $100 each month to pay off bills.”
Keep Accountable
- Meet every month with your buddy to check in on your goals.
- Problem solve with each other to get past difficult times.
- Celebrate successes, too!
I’ll be your “buddy” if that works best for you.
Revisit Your Goals on a Weekly Basis
- Set aside one hour a week to review your goals.I do mine every Sunday morning. This timing is perfect for me because I can plan my actions for the week ahead. Review what’s working and what isn’t. Be honest with yourself! The point is to check if you’re on target with your goal, not just to tick off a box on your list.
- If you need to add further actions to each goal, then do so.Your action list is a work in progress. Don’t forget to add the time frame for the completion of each step.
- If you’re stuck on a particular goal, then revisit the action list.Ask yourself, “What else can I do to make progress on this goal? What help do I need?” Also, speak to your buddy.
- This is also a time to celebrate and dwell on your successes.By celebrating, you imprint on your mind the successes you’ve achieved. Don’t skip this step! Celebrating will give you the motivation to continue.
Getting the right support is vital in succeeding in your goals.
I can help you with that.
