Week 11: The Key to Happiness in 2016

Key to Happiness

‘The whole secret of life is to know what you want, to write it down,
and then commit yourself to accomplish it’.
This is a favourite quote of mine from Jack LaLanne’s book Revitalize Your Life.

The Key to Happiness in 2016

 Let me break this concept down for you into easy chunks:
  1. What do you really want? Have an honest conversation with yourself. Don’t be shy or modest. Unless you choose a goal/wish/dream you really want, you’re not going to put the work in to get it.
  1. Write down your goal(s). If you need help, get in touch with me or simply see the last newsletter where I outline how to do it – here’s the link.
  1. Prepare your mind to do the work! ‘Commit yourself to accomplish it’. Just five minutes at the beginning of your day will rewire your mind for success.
  • Set aside time every morning as soon as you jump out of bed.
  • Find a quiet spot in your house.
  • Relax, sit up straight, and take five deep breaths—in through your nose, hold for a count of five, and out through your mouth.
  • Mentally run your goal through your mind.
  • Imagine how you would truly feel with this goal accomplished. See the impact on your life. Hear people congratulating you. What would they be saying? What would you be saying to yourself? How do you look?
  • Feel the gratitude. Open up your heart. Focus on that happy emotion. If necessary, think of a past event that made you feel happy/ecstatic/grateful beyond measure/love in your heart.
  1. Have a plan of action. Get advice. Get a coach to help you achieve your goal. As Albert Einstein once said, ‘We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them’. This is where having a coach really helps.
  1. Pay attention to the feedback you get with each step you take. Did that step move you closer or further away from your goal? Be conscious of this feedback so you can steer yourself in the right direction.
The key to achieving your goals will be to focus on them. Put your whole attention on them so you bring them about.
