The ‘feel good’ factor is key to the successful attainment of goals.
Any goal you set must be turbocharged by a sense that you will attain the goal.
The quickest way I’ve found to increasing that level of belief is by FEELING GOOD.
If you don’t feel good,
the reason boils down to what you are THINKING.
And the GOOD NEWS is that you can take control of your thinking.
Most of your thinking is NOT REAL.
Let me show you what I mean.
The other day I was watching a soap opera and I found myself crying as I witnessed a tragic death.
This is crazy! Right?
I felt so awful that the character in the soap opera had died, and then came the tears.
Not good!
Let’s look at what went on here.
The whole situation wasn’t real!
The person didn’t really die—it was all make believe.
This just goes to show how your thoughts control what you feel—good or bad.
Here’s my tip on how to take charge of your thinking.
The next time you feel bad:
1. Stop and catch your thoughts.
2. Trace the thought that’s generating this negative feeling.
3. Ask yourself, ‘Do I really need to feel bad about this situation, or can I think of it another way that makes me feel more positive?’
My personal experience of doing this exercise is that I soon began to realise that I am choosing HOW I FEEL [good or bad].
When I saw that for the first time, I realised that I HAD A CHOICE in how I saw and interpreted situations.
Now I’m not going all Pollyanna on you—there are some really horrible things going on in this world, but that’s not what I’m talking about here.
I am pointing to the habitual thoughts you think on a daily basis to which you already have decided to give a good or a bad label.
I have a client that had a big aha moment when he realized that every time he had an interaction with a particular work colleague he automatically started to think negative thoughts. These negative thoughts stressed him out and took the joy out of his day.
The moment he decided to look at his co-worker differently was a mentally empowering moment in his life because, from a sense of optimism, not only did his day go better, AND he found himself in a better place when it has come to the attainment of his goals.
Hope this helps.
