I got a text from a friend the other day and it literally read:
“Hi if you don’t mind I can’t meet you today for coffee. I am on a downer. Today. Really. Feeling low.”
When I saw this text I rang her straight away because I was really worried about her.
It turns out that she’s dealing with family issues, and coupled with working insanely long hours at work, she’s basically getting so stressed she’s not even got the energy to go out with friends.
Here’s what you need to be cautious about. Stress can show up in a number of different ways; the list is endless:
- Becoming easily agitated, frustrated, and moody
- Feeling overwhelmed, like you are losing control or need to take control
- Feeling bad about yourself (low self-esteem), lonely, worthless, and depressed
- Avoiding others [just like my friend]
- Being disorganized
- Experiencing low energy, headaches, or an upset stomach
- Suffering from frequent colds and infections
- Eating too much, increased use of alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, or other harmful substances
- Being pessimistic or seeing only the negative side
In the end when you’re under stress, you just can’t THINK STRAIGHT. Your head is so full of the negatives that you can’t even begin to FOCUS on the success you crave.
This is an intolerable and dangerous situation to get into because STRESS STEALS YOUR DREAMS OF SUCCESS and seeps the life out of you.
